All About Ms. Dwight

My name is Courtney Dwight, and I have been a 4th grade teacher at Joseph J. Davies Elementary School for the past two years.  I am very excited about our 4th grade team this year.  You may be wondering, "Why does she keep calling our class a "team"?"  Starting the first day of school, I want my students to know that we must work together as a team to accomplish our goals.  By working together, we can help each other understand confusing topics, practice the skills we have learned, and, most importantly, have fun!  We all know that the LEAP test is an important standardized test that all fourth grade students will be taking in the Spring.  We will talk about this test frequently in class, but I don't want my students to feel nervous.  This year they will learn all the skills necessary to do well.  My goal for each student is the following: "I will score Mastery on all sections of the LEAP test!"  I know that each of my students is capable of scoring Mastery or higher, and we will talk about this goal daily.

Let me take a minute to introduce myself a little more.  I went to college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.  After college, I moved to New Orleans to teach, and I have been here for the past two years.  I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia and love to visit my family frequently.  I have one sister who just graduated from the University of Georgia and will be teaching 2nd grade in Nashville, Tennessee.  I am currently an advisor for the K-Kids Club at Joe Davies which is a community-service club for third, fourth and fifth graders.  We do project throughout the year to help the people and community of St. Bernard Parish.  Living in New Orleans and working in Chalmette has been wonderful, and I am very excited to teach a wonderful team for a third year!
